Brake Fluid Level Sensor/Switch: Description and Operation

Under normal conditions, the float remains above the reed switch, and the magnetic force from the permanent magnet in the float is unable to activate it. Therefore, the circuit is kept open, and the warning light remains off. The float lowers as the brake fluid level lowers, and if it falls below the specified fluid level [approximately 19 mm (0.75 in) below the MAX level line], the reed switch will be activated by the permanent magnet, closing the circuit. In this event, the warning light comes on and warns the driver of a reduction of the brake fluid level.

However, the warning light may be lighted momentarily even when the brake fluid surface is still above the specified level, if the vehicle body tilts or swings largely.
