Seat Belt Retractor: Description and Operation

Seat Belt

1. DIRECT CLAMP TYPE ELR
To shorten the length at webbing drawn out before the activation at ELR on the abrupt deceleration of the vehicle, a mechanism which directly clamps the webbing is added to the ELR system.

1. Webbing (1) is drawn out.
2. Pole (4) is engaged with latch plate (5) and rotates counterclockwise.
3. Pole pin moves and tension plate (6) rotates counterclockwise.
4. Tension plate (6) pushes outer lever (7) and rotates it clockwise.
5. Outer lever (7) and inner lever (3) rotate clockwise as a unit and push up clamp (2).
6. Clamp (2) parallelly moves along with upper plate (9) and webbing (1) is clamped between clamp (2) and lower plate (8).

2. AUTOMATIC ELR
When the webbing of the rear seat belt is once drawn out completely, its retractor is changed to the automatic locking condition to securely install the child restraint system. In this condition, the webbing can be retracted but cannot be extended. When the belt is retracted to some extent, this condition is released.
