Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming: Service and Repair

WARNING: Handling the air bag module improperly can accidentally deploy the air bag module, which may seriously injure you. Read AIR BAG SYSTEM SERVICE PRECAUTIONS before handling the air bag module.

DISARM
1. Set front wheels in straight ahead position.
2. Turn ignition switch off.
3. Disconnect ground cable from battery and wait for at least 20 seconds before starting work.


ARM
1. Reconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Verify that the air bag system warning light illuminates for approximately 6-7 seconds then goes off.
4. If the air bag system warning light remains on, off, or repeats flashing after servicing, there are malfunctions in the system. Refer to AIR BAGS (SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS) / TESTING AND INSPECTION.
