Shifter A/T: Description and Operation
- The selector lever moves through seven positions. Since movement of the lever is restricted by gates in the guide plate and a pin on the lever, it can always be retained correctly in a desired position. Before shifting the lever from P to R, 3 to 2, N to R or R to P, a button on the lever is pressed to unlock the lever.
- Automatic transmission vehicles are equipped with a shift lock system which makes it impossible to shift the gearshift selector lever from "P" to any other position unless the ignition switch is turned "ON" and the brake pedal is being depressed.
- For connecting the selector lever and the transmission, a push-pull cable is employed.
