Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

Primary Circuit Inspection:





PRIMARY CIRCUIT
1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. Using a high impedance meter, measure the resistance between the electrical connectors.

Primary Resistance: 0.68 - 0.83 Ohms

Secondary Circuit Inspection:





SECONDARY CIRCUIT

NOTE: Since diodes are built into the coil's secondary circuit, resistance cannot be measured.

1. Connect a 12 VDC power supply and digital ammeter in series between primary and secondary terminals of ignition coil.
2. Measure the current flow through the circuit.

Secondary Current: Approx. 0.32 mA
