Engine Control System

DTC 13 Cam Angle Sensor Diagnostic Chart:




Cam Angle Sensor Circuit:





DIAGNOSTIC CHART AND DIAGRAM

ECM Connectors:





1. CHECK INPUT SIGNAL FOR ECU.
1) Turn ignition switch to "OFF".
2) Disconnect ECU connectors.
3) Check input signal for ECU from cam angle sensor.

^ Using oscilloscope
(1) Set the positive (+) probe at (B59) terminal No. 7, and set earth lead at (B62) terminal No. 9.
(2) Cranking the engine, and check wave profile.

Open Cam Angle Sensor Circuit Oscilloscope Pattern:





When waveform pattern is shown on screen, cam angle sensor ground circuit is open.

^ Using voltage meter
Check if voltage varies synchronously with engine revolution when cranking, while monitoring voltage between ECU connector terminal.

Connector & Terminal/Specified value
(B48) No. 7 - No. 9/AC 0.1 V, min.

2. CHECK HARNESS CONNECTOR BETWEEN ECU AND CAM ANGLE SENSOR.
1) Turn ignition switch to "OFF".
2) Disconnect connector from ECU and cam angle sensor.
3) Measure resistance of harness connector between ECU and cam angle sensor.

Connector & Terminal/Specified value
(B59) No. 7 - (E23) No. 1/O ohms
(B59) No. 9 - (E23) No. 2/0 ohms

Cam Angle Sensor:





4) Measure resistance between ECU connector and body to check short circuit.

Connector & Terminal/Specified value
(B59) No. 7 - Body/1 M ohm min.
(B59) No. 9 - Body/1 M ohm min.

Cam Angle Sensor Inspection:





3. CHECK CAM ANGLE SENSOR.
1) Remove cam angle sensor.
2) Set the positive (+) probe of oscilloscope at sensor connector terminal No. 1, and set earth lead at terminal No. 2.
3) Check a wave profile appears when making crossing a magnet near the pick.up coil of cam angle sensor.
