Fig. 18 Valve Relay Inspection:





1. Turn ignition switch to Off position, then disconnect ABS control unit connector.
2. Disassemble ABS control unit connector, then measure resistance between control unit connector terminals 17 and 27. Resistance should be 80-90 ohms.
3. Disconnect connectors from hydraulic unit.
4. Measure resistance between hydraulic unit connector F43 terminal 1 and connector R1 terminal 11. Resistance should be 1 Mohm minimum.
5. Remove valve relay, then attach tester probes as shown in Fig. 18.
a. With terminals 30 and 87 connected. Resistance should be 0 ohms when 12 volts are applied or 1 Mohms when no voltage is applied.
b. With terminals 30 and 87a connected. Resistance should be 1 Mohm when 12 volts are applied or 0 ohms when no voltage is applied.
6. Disconnect connector from hydraulic unit.
7. Measure resistance between hydraulic unit terminals 6 and 12. Resistance should be 80-90 ohms. When resistance checks out unsatisfactory, check relay as a single unit.
8. Disconnect connectors from ABS control unit and hydraulic unit, then measure as follows:
a. Measure resistance between hydraulic unit connector R1 terminal 6 and control unit connector terminal 17. Resistance should be 0 ohm.
b. Measure resistance between hydraulic unit connector R1 terminal 12 and control unit connector terminal 27. Resistance should be 0 ohm.
c. Measure resistance between hydraulic unit connector R1 terminal 6 and ground. Resistance should be 1 Mohm minimum.
d. Measure resistance between hydraulic unit connector R1 terminal 12 and ground. Resistance should be 1 Mohm minimum.
e. If the above resistances are satisfactory, replace hydraulic unit. If the above resistance are unsatisfactory, repair harness/connector between ABS control unit and hydraulic unit.
9. Turn ignition switch to On position, then measure voltage between hydraulic unit connector F43 terminal 1 and ground. Voltage should be 10-12 volts.
