Throttle Position Sensor

PURPOSE
Signals from the accelerator and throttle-position switches are used by the ECVT control unit in its calculations for electromagnetic powder clutch control.

LOCATION
Beneath dash near pedal assembly.

OPERATION
Operation of the accelerator pedal is detected by a microswitch attached to the accelerator pedal and, at starting, the clutch current is turned on. At stopping, this signal is used with the vehicle speed pulse to prevent the engine from stalling.
The amount the accelerator is pressed is sensed by the throttle-position switch. With this input, the ECVT control unit determines the current required to directly couple the clutch.
