Testing is done visually first. Replace thermostat if the valve does not fully close at room temperature. Next immerse the thermostat a suitable container of water and check operation of valve as the temperature is increased. The valve should begin to open at 86.5 - 89.5°C (188 - 193°F), and be fully open at 100°C (212°F)
