Rear Suspension

Conventional Suspension

1. Raise and support rear of vehicle, ensuring that rear suspension is unloaded.
2. Remove 2 upper shock absorber mounting bolts.
3. Remove lower mounting bolt and the coil spring/shock absorber assembly.
4. Mount assembly in suitable spring compressor ensuring that projections on compressor are seated on inner diameter of spring.
5. Compress spring until tension is relieved from spring seats, then remove rod connecting nuts, Figs. 6 and 7.
6. Remove body mounting bracket, plate and upper spring seat as an assembly.
7. Slowly release spring tension, then remove coil spring from shock absorber body.
8. Remove helper assembly from shock absorber.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Mount coil spring with flat face toward lower spring seat.
b. Ensure body mounting bracket is properly aligned and that rubber seat does not extrude from spring seat.
c. Ensure upper end of spring is fully seated in upper seat.
d. Torque all fasteners to specifications, Fig. 7.

Pneumatic Suspension

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, raise and support vehicle ensuring that rear suspension is unloaded, then remove wheels.
2. Remove rear apron protector, Fig. 8.
3. Pry up lock sleeve using suitable tool and disconnect air line.
4. Remove solenoid valve from air spring body.
5. Withdraw height sensor harness from access hole in body, then disconnect electrical connector.
6. Remove upper and lower mounting bolts and the air spring assembly.
7. Reverse procedure to install, using new O-rings when connecting air line and ensuring that air lines and wiring harnesses are properly aligned.
8. Torque upper mounting bolts to 65-94 ft.lbs. and lower bolt to 65-87 ft.lbs.
