Temperature Select Lever - Replacement Info.

APPLICABILITY: ALL 1985/1986 4-DOOR SEDAN AND STATION WAGON, DATE 03-04-86 AND ALL 1986 3-DOOR VEHICLES


SUBJECT: TEMPERATURE SELECT LEVER SEAL REPLACEMENT

The Temperature Select Lever seal (P/N 72043GA000) is now available should replacement be necessary. (See Figure 1).

To replace the temperature select lever seal:

1) Remove all five (5) temperature mode buttons from the mode control panel, keeping them in their proper order. (See Figure 2).

2) Remove the dash face by removing the four (4) screws in the dash panel (See Figure 2), and the two (2) screws in the mode control panel, and the temperature select lever knob. (See Figure 3).

3) Pull the mode control assembly out of the dashboard without disconnecting it. (See Figure 4).
4) Disconnect the two (2) illumination lights in the mode control by turning them counterclockwise. (See Figure 4).

5) Remove the five (5) screws that connect the mode control assembly to the mode control panel face. (See Figure 4).

6) On the opposite side of the mode control assembly, disconnect the illumination light by turning it counterclockwise. (See Figure 5).
7) Holding the mode control panel assembly with the panel face facing upward, undo the two (2) clips, that secure the mode panel face to the mode control assembly, then separate the two. (See Figure 5).

NOTE: After removing the mode panel face, leave the mode control assembly in an upward position with the clear push buttons left on the mode control assembly to avoid confusion during reassembly.

8) Remove the white plastic piece attached to the mode control panel by undoing its five (5) plastic fasteners. (See Figure 6).

9) Remove the rubber seal located in the mode control panel by peeling it back with a straight blade screwdriver. (See Figure 7).

10) To keep the rubber seal in place after assembly, place small dabs of clear silicone sealer on the areas of the mode control panel indicated in Figure 8.
11) Install a new rubber seal on the mode control panel.

12) Reassemble the mode control panel in the reverse order of disassembly.

13) Before reinstalling the unit, check the operation of the mode control push buttons to ensure smooth operation.

14) After assembling the dash board, check the operation of all switches to ensure their proper operation.

This procedure may be claimed under the combined operations and time allowances of #B 712-001 0.5 Hrs. and #C 712-311 0.1 Hrs. for the total Operation Time of 0.6 Hrs. (Failure Code SGS-03).
