Electric Drive Systems: Service Precautions

AS54.00-Z-0001-02MEV Risk Of Death When Touching Components On Vehicles With High-voltage System

DANGER: Do not touch components and open lines of the high-voltage system. Persons who are carriers of electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must not carry out any work on high-voltage systems.

High-voltage system
In the entire high-voltage system
voltages < 400 volts exist.

Risk of death caused by electric shock
Burns, fibrillation of the heart or cardiac arrest due to electric shock may occur upon touching components of the high-voltage system.
Improper handling and nonobservance of the warning notices may lead to property damage, bodily injury, electric shock or, in an extreme case, cardiac arrest.
After a voltage accident a physician must be consulted in order to check the functioning of the body, as subsequent injury may still occur after several days.

Safety instructions/precautions
- Persons who are carriers of electronic implants (e.g. cardiac pacemakers) must not carry out any work on high-voltage systems.
- Open lines and components of the high-voltage system must not be touched under any circumstances.
In particular, this affects accident vehicles before the high- voltage system is disabled.
- Work on components of the high-voltage system may only be carried out by persons who verifiably participated in special qualification measures. These persons must have a special electro-technical education and be authorized.
- The key of the activation lock must be kept in a safe place (e.g. individual-related).
- Assembly/disassembly work on the high-voltage system may only be performed after high-voltage disconnection of the vehicle.
- If de-energization of the high-voltage system cannot definitely be determined, e.g. due to mechanical damage, no further work on the high-voltage system may be carried out. The further procedure is then to be clarified with the respective service hotline of the responsible organization.
