Matt Paintwork
Special procedures must be followed during care, cleaning and repair.
Post-repair refinishing:
A repair solution for matt paintwork has been developed with all approved paint partners.
The repair paintwork is applied in the normal way with the exception of the matt clearcoat repair systems which are to be used.
The following special considerations should be observed:
A. Paint Repair
Before post-repair refinishing, the production of a spray sample with base coat and clearcoat is strongly recommended for checking the color and luster.
The luster can also be measured using a commercially available reflectometer. In the case of "Magno matt paintwork" it is 23 %E (+/- 7) when measured at a 60° angle. Painting the parts "edge to edge" is recommended. If this is not possible, we recommend a large repair of the entire damaged side of the vehicle. Furthermore, spot repairs and touchups on parts are not recommended. The entire component must be repaired; i.e., the entire door must be coated with matt clearcoat, for example.
B. Final Finish
It is not possible to polish dirt or paint runs out of the last clearcoat layer because polishing creates uneven differences in luster. For this reason, extreme cleanliness is important during the repair. Any dirt inclusions must be removed before the last spray application of clearcoat.
The specifications of the repair paint manufacturers must always be followed during repair. These are found in the After-Sales Paint Technology Guide found on: https://portal.aftersales.i.daimler.com.
II. Cleaning and Care
A. Maintenance
To preserve the matt surface, paint cleaners, abrasive and polishing products as well as gloss preservers or wax must not be applied to the paintwork. It is especially important not to polish the vehicle as it will cause glossy patches in the matt surface. If polishing is performed, the matt effect can only be restored by repainting.
Excessive rubbing with unsuitable products can also cause brightening and frequent use of unsuitable washing facilities can increase the luster.
B. Cleaners
The vehicle should preferably be washed by hand with a soft sponge, neutral soap and plenty of water. Frequent use of washing facilities can increase the luster and thus lessen the matt effect.
Always avoid washing in direct sunlight. Any insect or bird lime should be removed immediately by soaking with water and using a high pressure cleaner. In the case of difficult-to-remove insects, spray first with the insect remover.
