Location
The secondary air injection pump switchover valve is located on the left next to the cylinder head cover in the direction of travel.

Task
The secondary air injection pump switchover valve actuates the secondary air valve with a vacuum from the intake manifold for air injection.

Function
The secondary air injection pump switchover valve is directly actuated by the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10) with a ground signal when air injection is enabled. As a result, the armature plate (a) is attracted by the solenoid (d) and the rubber seal (f) shuts off the aeration connection (1). The connection between the vacuum supply connection (2) and the secondary air valve connection (3) is released and the vacuum is created from the intake manifold to the secondary air valve.
In a deenergized state, the connection between the aeration connection (1) and the secondary air valve connection (3) is reestablished, vacuum actuation up to the secondary air valve is interrupted.
