Data bus systems
The following data bus systems are involved in the overall network:
^ Controller Area Network (data bus/CAN bus) (CAN)
^ Controller area network bus class B (interior compartment) (CAN B)
^ Local Interconnect Network (LIN)
CAN/CAN-B
When transferring data, the connected components are not addressed, but rather the content of a message (e.g. rpm or engine temperature) is marked by a unique identifier. With the subsequent acceptance filtering, all control units - upon correct reception of the message - use the identifier to determine whether the data are relevant for them or not.
The CAN operates at a transfer rate of 500 kbit/s, CAN-B at a transfer rate of 83.3 kbit/s. The instrument cluster functions as a gateway between CAN and CAN-B.
The following control units and components are networked over CAN:
^ Instrument cluster
^ SAM control unit
^ ESP control unit
^ Restraint systems control unit
^ Steering angle sensor
^ Yaw rate, lateral and longitudinal acceleration sensor
^ TPM [RDK] control unit
^ ME-SFI [ME] control unit
^ Heater/AC operating unit
^ Steering assist control unit
^ Automated manual transmission control unit
^ Electronic selector lever module control unit
The data link connector is the interface for connecting STAR DIAGNOSIS to CAN.
The following control units are networked over CAN-B:
^ Weight Sensing System (WSS) control unit
^ Instrument cluster
LIN
When data is transferred via LIN, digital signals are transmitted with an address.
The data transfer rate is 20 kbit/s.
The following components are connected to the SAM control unit via LIN B:
^ Rain sensor/light sensor
^ Tachograph
The following components are connected to the SAM control unit via LIN C:
^ Alarm siren with inclination sensor
^ Microwave sensor
