Fuel Injector: Description and Operation
GF07.03-P-6010MCC Component Description For Fuel Injection Valves
Y62/1 Cylinder 1 fuel injection valve
Y62/2 Cylinder 2 fuel injection valve
Y62/3 Cylinder 3 fuel injection valve
Location
The fuel injection valves are located in the cylinder head upstream of the intake valves.
Task
The injection valves inject the fuel in the required amount before the intake valve.
Design
1 Fuel pressure fitting
2 Sealing ring (O-ring)
3 Fuel connector to fuel rail
4 Internal transfer tube
5 Adjusting sleeve
6 Housing
7 Coil spring
8 Plastic washer
9 Filter
10 Outlet hole
11 Nozzle needle
12 Armature
13 Solenoid winding
14 Electrical connection
Function
When the solenoid coil is energized, the nozzle needle is raised about 0.1 mm by the solenoid armature against the force of the coil spring.
Fuel escapes through the outlet hole and is sprayed into the intake port in a finely atomized spray.
Fuel injection valves are actuated by mass impulses from the ME-SFI [ME] control unit (N3/10).
