SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: SPIRAL CABLE: REMOVAL; 2013 MY FR-S [03/2012 -]
1. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
Removal
2. REMOVE INSTRUMENT SIDE PANEL Removal
3. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
4. REMOVE CENTER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
5. REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
6. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL METER ORNAMENT Removal
7. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Check the colored part as shown in the illustration.
If the colored part shown in the illustration cannot be confirmed, it is possible that the spiral cable sub-assembly is broken. Replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with a new one.
8. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER Removal
9. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER Removal
10. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY
NOTICE:
* Do not replace the spiral cable sub-assembly with the battery connected and turn the ignition switch to ON.
* Do not rotate the spiral cable sub-assembly without the steering wheel with the battery connected and turn the ignition switch to ON.
* Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.
(a) Check that the ignition switch is off.
(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.
(c) Check that the front wheels are facing straight ahead.
(d) Slide the slider to release the lock, and then disconnect the yellow airbag connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
(e) Disconnect the other connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
(f) Disengage the 3 claws to remove the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.
11. REMOVE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY
NOTICE:
* Remove the spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering sensor only when replacing it or the steering sensor.
* Do not rotate the center section of the steering sensor, as it may deviate from the steering sensor neutral point.
* When replacing the steering sensor: Removal
(a) Disengage the 6 claws, 2 pins and 2 guides to remove the spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering sensor.
NOTICE:
Do not damage the guide and claw.
