Steering Column: Testing and Inspection





STEERING COLUMN: STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY: INSPECTION

1. INSPECT PRELOAD

(a) Secure the steering column assembly in a vise.

NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(b) Using SST and a torque wrench, turn the main shaft continuously at a rate of approximately 15 seconds per turn, and measure the preload.





SST : 09616-00011

Standard preload:

0.8 to 1.4 N*m (8.2 to 14.3 kgf*cm, 7.1 to 12.4 in.*lbf)

If the preload is not within the specified range, replace the steering column assembly with a new one.

2. INSPECT STEERING LOCK OPERATION

(a) Check that the steering lock mechanism is activated when the key is removed.





(b) Check that the steering lock mechanism is deactivated when the key is inserted and turned to the ACC position.

If there is any abnormality, replace the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly or upper steering column bracket assembly.
