STEERING COLUMN: STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY: DISASSEMBLY
1. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Put matchmarks on the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and the steering column assembly.

(b) Remove the bolt and the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
2. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN BRACKET ASSEMBLY
(a) Secure the steering column assembly in a vise.
NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.
(b) Using a center punch, mark the center of the tapered-head bolt.
(c) Using a 3 to 4 mm (0.118 to 0.157 in.) diameter drill bit, drill a hole in the tapered-head bolt.
(d) Using a screw extractor, remove the tapered-head bolt and the upper steering column bracket assembly from the steering column assembly.
3. REMOVE TRANSPONDER KEY AMPLIFIER (w/ Engine Immobiliser System)
(a) Disengage the 2 claws and slide the transponder key amplifier in the direction shown in the illustration, to detach it from the upper steering column bracket assembly.
4. REMOVE IGNITION OR STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 screws and the ignition or starter switch assembly from the upper steering column bracket assembly.
5. REMOVE KEY INTERLOCK SOLENOID
(a) Remove the 2 screws and the key interlock solenoid from the upper steering column bracket assembly.
(b) Using a screwdriver, release the stopper.

(c) Using a screwdriver, disengage the locking lug of terminals 3 and 4, and pull the terminals out from the rear of the connector.
6. REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH LOCK CYLINDER ASSEMBLY
(a) Turn the ignition switch to ACC.

(b) Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the hole A in the upper steering column bracket assembly, and pull out the ignition switch lock cylinder assembly from the upper steering column bracket assembly.
7. REMOVE UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSEMBLY
(a) Disengage the 2 claws and remove the unlock warning switch assembly from the upper steering column bracket assembly as shown in the illustration.
(b) Disconnect the unlock warning switch connector from the upper steering column bracket assembly.
