Removal





SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY (for Driver Side): REMOVAL

CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing Service Precautions.

1. PRECAUTION

NOTICE:
After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work Service Precautions.

2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the RH side Removal.

4. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH

HINT
Use the same procedure as for the RH side Removal.

5. REMOVE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH

(a) Remove the front door opening trim weatherstrip to the extent necessary to remove the No. 1 lower instrument panel.

6. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY Removal

7. REMOVE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

CAUTION:
When storing the knee airbag assembly, keep the airbag deployment side facing upward.

(a) Check that the ignition switch is off.

(b) Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

(c) Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, release the locking button.

(d) Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disconnect the airbag connector and remove the instrument panel wire.

(e) Remove the 3 bolts.





(f) Disengage the 2 guides and remove the knee airbag assembly.
