B1698/82 - Door Side Airbag Sensor LH Initialization Incomplete

DESCRIPTION

The circuit for the side collision sensor LH (to determine deployment of the front seat side airbag LH and curtain shield airbag LH) is composed of the center airbag sensor assembly, side airbag sensor LH (for front side) and side airbag sensor LH (for rear side).

The side airbag sensor LH (for front side) and side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) detect impacts to the vehicle and send signals to the center airbag sensor assembly to determine if the airbag should be deployed.

DTC B1698/82 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the circuit for the side collision sensor LH (for front side) (to determine deployment of the front seat side airbag LH and curtain shield airbag LH).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK PAST DTC

(a) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(b) Turn the ignition switch off.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Check the past DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result:

A -- GO TO DTC B1692/81 B1690

B -- GO TO DTC B1697/82 B1695
C -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and side airbag sensor LH (for front side).

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and side airbag sensor LH (for front side).

(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and side airbag sensor LH (for front side) side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH (FOR FRONT SIDE) CIRCUIT (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH (FOR FRONT SIDE))

(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

(d) Turn the ignition switch off.

(e) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(f) Using a service wire, connect terminals 24 and 23 of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(g) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(h) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

(i) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - FRONT DOOR WIRE LH)
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH (FOR REAR SIDE) CIRCUIT

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor LH (for front side) and side airbag sensor LH (for rear side).

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 2 and 1 of connector E.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(i) Disconnect the service wire from connector E.

(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

NG -- CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH (FOR REAR SIDE) - FRONT DOOR WIRE LH)
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK DTC

(a) Interchange the side airbag sensor LH (for front side) with side airbag sensor RH (for front side) and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

(h) Turn the ignition switch off.

(i) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the side airbag sensor LH (for front side) and side airbag sensor RH (for front side) to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

7. CHECK DTC

(a) Interchange the side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) with side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

DTCs other than B1693/81 and B1698/82 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

(h) Turn the ignition switch off.

(i) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) and side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

8. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR - FRONT DOOR WIRE LH)

(a) Disconnect the floor wire connector from the front door wire LH.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.

(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 24 and 23 of connector B.

NOTICE:

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

9. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR LH (FOR REAR SIDE) - FRONT DOOR WIRE LH)

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(g) Using a service wire, connect terminals 3 and 4 of connector B.

NOTICE:
Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting the wire.

(h) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:

(i) Disconnect the service wire from connector B.

(j) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

OK -- REPLACE FRONT DOOR WIRE LH
