B1634

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEMS: AIRBAG SYSTEM: B1634/81: Lost Communication with Rear Sensor Bus RH
B1634/81 - Lost Communication with Rear Sensor Bus RH

DESCRIPTION

The circuit for the rear side collision sensor RH (to determine deployment of the rear window curtain shield airbag) is composed of the center airbag sensor assembly and rear airbag sensor RH.

The rear airbag sensor RH detects impacts to the vehicle and sends signals to the center airbag sensor assembly to determine if the airbag should be deployed.

DTC B1634/81 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the circuit for the rear side collision sensor RH (to determine deployment of the rear window curtain shield airbag).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS

(a) Turn the ignition switch off.

(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) and rear airbag sensor RH.

OK:

The connectors are properly connected.

NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. CHECK CONNECTORS

(a) Disconnect the connectors from the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) and rear airbag sensor RH.

(b) Check that the connectors (on the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) side and rear airbag sensor RH side) are not damaged.

OK:

The connectors are not deformed or damaged.

NG -- REPLACE FLOOR WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR REAR SIDE)

(a) Interchange the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) with side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) and connect the connectors to them.

(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.

(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(e) Turn the ignition switch off.

(f) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait for at least 60 seconds.

(g) Check for DTCs Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

(h) Turn the ignition switch off.

(i) Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal, and wait for at least 90 seconds.

(j) Return the side airbag sensor RH (for rear side) and side airbag sensor LH (for rear side) to their original positions and connect the connectors to them.

A -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK Diagnosis System

B -- REPLACE SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR REAR SIDE) Removal
C -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK FLOOR WIRE (SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR RH (FOR REAR SIDE) - REAR AIRBAG SENSOR RH)
