Turn Signal Light Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The turn signal flasher assembly in the main body ECU turns on when it receives signals from the headlight dimmer switch integrated with the turn signal switch, causing the turn signal lights to flash.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK OPERATION OF TURN SIGNAL LIGHT
(a) When the turn signal light switch is operated, check that the appropriate turn signal light flashes.
Result:






D -- REPLACE BULB (REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB)
C -- INSPECT SIDE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT ASSEMBLY
B -- REPLACE BULB (FRONT TURN SIGNAL BULB)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. INSPECT FUSES (GAUGE, HAZ)




(a) Remove the GAUGE fuse from the main body ECU.
(b) Remove the HAZ fuse from the engine room relay block.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reinstall the GAUGE and HAZ fuses.
NG -- REPLACE FUSE
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. INSPECT HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH




(a) Remove the headlight dimmer switch Removal.
(b) Inspect the turn signal light switch.
(1) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(c) Reinstall the headlight dimmer switch.
NG -- REPLACE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH - MAIN BODY ECU)




(a) Disconnect the F6 headlight dimmer switch connector.
(b) Disconnect the 4E and 4S main body ECU connectors.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reconnect the headlight dimmer switch connector.
(e) Reconnect the main body ECU connectors.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HAZ FUSE - MAIN BODY ECU)




(a) Disconnect the 4B main body ECU connector.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





(c) Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - BODY GROUND)




(a) Disconnect the 4E main body ECU connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(c) Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. INSPECT MAIN BODY ECU




(a) Remove the main body ECU.
(b) Remove the turn signal flasher assembly from the main body ECU.
(c) Remove the IG1 relay from the main body ECU.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(e) Reinstall the IG1 relay.
(f) Reinstall the turn signal flasher assembly.
(g) Reinstall the main body ECU.
NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
OK -- REPLACE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER ASSEMBLY
8. REPLACE BULB (FRONT TURN SIGNAL BULB)
(a) Temporarily replace the front turn signal light bulb with a new or normally functioning one Disassembly.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
9. CHECK FRONT TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB
(a) Check that the front turn signal light comes on.
OK:
Front turn signal light comes on.
NG -- INSPECT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (SYSTEM VOLTAGE)
OK -- END (REPLACE BULB)
10. INSPECT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY (SYSTEM VOLTAGE)




(a) Disconnect the B1 and B7 headlight assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





(c) Reconnect the headlight connectors.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY)
OK -- Continue to next step.
11. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND)




(a) Disconnect the B1 and B7 headlight assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(c) Reconnect the headlight assembly connectors.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE No. 2 LIGHT WIRE
12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY)




(a) Disconnect the B1 and B7 headlight assembly connectors.
(b) Disconnect the 4B main body ECU connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
(e) Reconnect the headlight assembly connectors.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
13. INSPECT MAIN BODY ECU




(a) Remove the main body ECU.
(b) Remove the turn signal flasher assembly from the main body ECU.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reinstall the turn signal flasher assembly.
(e) Reinstall the main body ECU.
NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
OK -- REPLACE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER ASSEMBLY
14. INSPECT SIDE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT ASSEMBLY




(a) Remove the side turn signal light assembly from the outer rear view mirror assembly Removal.
(b) Apply battery voltage to the terminals and check that the side turn signal light comes on.
OK:





(c) Reinstall the side turn signal light assembly.
NG -- REPLACE SIDE TURN SIGNAL LIGHT ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
15. INSPECT OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY (SYSTEM VOLTAGE)




(a) Disconnect the I2 and J2 outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





(c) Reconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY - MAIN
BODY ECU)
OK -- Continue to next step.
16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY - BODY GROUND)




(a) Disconnect the I2 and J2 outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(c) Reconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY
17. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTER REAR VIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY - MAIN
BODY ECU)




(a) Disconnect the I2 and J2 outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
(b) Disconnect the 4S main body ECU connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reconnect the outer rear view mirror assembly connectors.
(e) Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
18. INSPECT MAIN BODY ECU




(a) Remove the main body ECU.
(b) Remove the turn signal flasher assembly from the main body ECU.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reinstall the turn signal flasher assembly.
(e) Reinstall the main body ECU.
NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
OK -- REPLACE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER ASSEMBLY
19. REPLACE BULB (REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB)
(a) Temporarily replace the rear turn signal light bulb with a new or normally functioning one Disassembly.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
20. CHECK REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB
(a) Check that the rear turn signal light comes on.
OK:
Rear turn signal light comes on.
NG -- INSPECT REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY (SYSTEM VOLTAGE)
OK -- END (REPLACE BULB)
21. INSPECT REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY (SYSTEM VOLTAGE)




(a) Disconnect the L5 and L6 rear combination light assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





(c) Reconnect the rear combination light assembly connectors.
NG -- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB)
OK -- Continue to next step.
22. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT - BODY GROUND)




(a) Disconnect the L5 and L6 rear combination light assembly connectors.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(c) Reconnect the rear combination light assembly connectors.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE REAR COMBINATION LIGHT ASSEMBLY
23. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MAIN BODY ECU - REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHT BULB)




(a) Disconnect the L5 and L6 rear combination light assembly connectors.
(b) Disconnect the 4A main body ECU connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reconnect the rear combination light assembly connectors.
(e) Reconnect the main body ECU connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
24. INSPECT MAIN BODY ECU




(a) Remove the main body ECU.
(b) Remove the turn signal flasher assembly from the main body ECU.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reinstall the turn signal flasher assembly.
(e) Reinstall the main body ECU.
NG -- REPLACE MAIN BODY ECU
OK -- REPLACE TURN SIGNAL FLASHER ASSEMBLY
