2AZ-FE FUEL: FUEL PUMP: REMOVAL
REMOVAL
1. REMOVE REAR SEAT CUSHION WITH COVER PAD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Hold the front edge of the rear seat cushion cover pad and lift it up, as shown in the illustration, to disengage the 2 hooks.
NOTICE: Hold the area around the hooks so as to avoid deforming the rear seat cushion frame.
(b) Pass the rear seat inner belt through the slit in the rear seat cushion cover pad, disengage the hook between the rear seat cushion cover pad and the rear seatback, and remove the rear seat cushion cover pad.
(c) Remove the rear seat cushion under cover.
(d) Remove the 2 rear seat cushion side covers.
(e) Remove the 5 bolts and remove the rear seat cushion leg sub-assembly.
2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE
NOTICE:
- Before removing any fuel system parts, take precautions to prevent gasoline spillage.
- As some pressure remains in the fuel line even after taking precautions to prevent gasoline spillage, use a piece of cloth to prevent gasoline splashes when disconnecting the fuel line.
(a) Remove the rear floor service hole cover.
(b) Disconnect the connector from the fuel pump assembly.
(c) Start the engine. After the engine stops naturally, turn the ignition switch OFF.
HINT: DTC P0171 (system too lean) may be set.
(d) Crank the engine again and make sure that the engine does not start.
(e) Remove the fuel tank cap and discharge the pressure.
3. REMOVE FUEL TANK MAIN TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Widen the tip of the tube joint clip and pull out the clip.
(b) Pull out the fuel tank main tube to disconnect it.
- Keep the O-ring free of foreign matter, as it becomes contaminated easily.
- Do not use any tools in this procedure.
- Do not forcefully bend or twist the tube.
- Put the tube in a plastic bag to prevent damage and contamination.
- If the fuel suction plate and tube are stuck together, pinch the tube and turn it carefully to disconnect it.
- Do not damage any clips. If a clip is damaged, replace it.
4. REMOVE FUEL PUMP GAUGE RETAINER
(a) Using SST, remove the fuel pump gauge retainer.

HINT: Align the ribs of the fuel pump gauge retainer and the tips of SST.
5. REMOVE FUEL SUCTION WITH PUMP AND GAUGE TUBE ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the fuel suction with pump and gauge tube assembly.
NOTICE: Do not bend the arm of the sender gauge.
(b) Remove the fuel suction tube set gasket from the fuel tank.
