Park / Neutral Position Switch Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The park/neutral position switch circuit inspection is necessary for automatic transaxle equipped vehicle.
When the shift lever is in any position except D, a signal is sent from the park/neutral position switch to terminal D of the ECM. When this signal is input during cruise control driving, terminal D cancels the cruise control.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHOOSE DIAGNOSIS METHOD
(a) Choose the diagnosis method.





B -- CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ECM - BATTERY)
A -- Continue to next step.
2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
(c) Select the item below in the "Data List", and read the display on the Techstream.
ECM (Cruise Control) :





OK:
When the shift lever is operated, the display changes as shown above.
NG -- CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ECM - BATTERY)
OK -- PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ECM - BATTERY)




(a) Disconnect the ECM connector.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





(d) Reconnect the ECM connector.
NG -- INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
OK -- REPLACE ECM
4. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY




(a) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(c) Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
NG -- REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM)




(a) Disconnect the ECM connector.
(b) Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





(d) Reconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
(e) Reconnect the ECM connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - BATTERY)
