DTC B1660/43 - Passenger Airbag ON / OFF Indicator Circuit Malfunction

DESCRIPTION

The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit consists of the center airbag sensor assembly and the heater control base.
The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator indicates the operation condition of the front passenger airbag assembly and the front seat side airbag assembly RH.
DTC B1660/43 is recorded when a malfunction is detected in the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator circuit.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR CONDITION
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(b) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.
HINT: Refer to the normal condition of the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator Diagnosis System.





Result:






B -- CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
A -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the heater control base.
OK:
The connectors are properly connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CHECK CONNECTORS
(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the heater control base.
(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and heater control base side) are not damaged.
OK:
The connectors are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
4. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON/OFF INDICATOR





(a) Connect the connector to the heater control base.
(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(c) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(d) Check the passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator operation.
OK:
The passenger airbag ON/OFF indicator does not come on.
NG -- CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY





(a) Connect the connector to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(c) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(d) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(g) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1660/43 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.

NG -- REPLACE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
OK -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
6. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)





(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Disconnect the connector from the heater control base.
(d) Disconnect the connectors from the steering pad.
(e) Disconnect the connectors from the front passenger airbag assembly.
(f) Disconnect the connector from the driver side knee airbag assembly.
(g) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the front seat side airbag assembly LH.
(h) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the front seat side airbag assembly RH.
(i) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the curtain shield airbag assembly LH.
(j) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the curtain shield airbag assembly RH.
(k) Disconnect the connector from the front seat outer belt assembly LH.
(l) Disconnect the connector from the front seat outer belt assembly RH.
(m) Using a service wire, connect A7-35 (A/BON) and A7-36 (A/BOFF) of connector "C".
NOTE: Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.
(n) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)





(a) Disconnect the service wire from connector "C".
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
8. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)





(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
9. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)





(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- REPLACE HEATER CONTROL BASE
10. CHECK CONNECTION OF CONNECTORS
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Check that the connectors are properly connected to the center airbag sensor assembly and the heater control base.
OK:
The connectors are properly connected.
NG -- CONNECT CONNECTORS PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
11. CHECK CONNECTORS
(a) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly and the heater control base.
(b) Check that the connectors (on the center airbag sensor assembly side and heater control base side) are not damaged.
OK:
The connectors are not deformed or damaged.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
12. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (OPEN)





(a) Disconnect the connectors from the steering pad.
(b) Disconnect the connectors from the front passenger airbag assembly.
(c) Disconnect the connector from the driver side knee airbag assembly.
(d) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the front seat side airbag assembly LH.
(e) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the front seat side airbag assembly RH.
(f) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the curtain shield airbag assembly LH.
(g) with Side and Curtain Shield Airbag:
Disconnect the connector from the curtain shield airbag assembly RH.
(h) Disconnect the connector from the front seat outer belt assembly LH.
(i) Disconnect the connector from the front seat outer belt assembly RH.
(j) Using a service wire, connect A7-35 (A/BON) and A7-36 (A/BOFF) of connector "C".
NOTE: Do not forcibly insert a service wire into the terminals of the connector when connecting.
(k) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
13. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT)





(a) Disconnect the service wire from connector "C".
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
14. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)





(a) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
15. CHECK INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE (SHORT TO B+)





(a) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE
OK -- Continue to next step.
16. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (HEATER CONTROL BASE - BATTERY)





(a) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(b) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(c) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE WIRE HARNESS
OK -- Continue to next step.
17. CHECK PASSENGER AIRBAG ON / OFF INDICATOR





(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Connect the connector to the heater control base.
(d) Disconnect the connectors from the center airbag sensor assembly.
(e) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery, and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(f) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(g) Check the indicator according to the conditions in the table below.
Result:






NG -- REPLACE HEATER CONTROL BASE
OK -- Continue to next step.
18. CHECK CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY





(a) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(b) Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery, and wait for at least 90 seconds.
(c) Connect the connectors to the center airbag sensor assembly.
(d) Connect the negative (-) terminal cable to the battery and wait for at least 2 seconds.
(e) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(f) Clear the DTCs stored in the memory DTC Check / Clear.
(g) Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position.
(h) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and wait for at least 60 seconds.
(i) Check for DTCs DTC Check / Clear.
OK:
DTC B1660/43 is not output.
HINT: Codes other than DTC B1660/43 may be output at this time, but they are not related to this check.
