Shift Cable: Service and Repair
TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLECOMPONENTS:
COMPONENTS:
REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER
4. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER
5. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY
7. REMOVE CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR
10. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the cable ends of the control cable.
b. Using a screwdriver, release the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable.
c. Turn the lock nuts 180° counterclockwise, and hold them in that position to remove the shift cable and select cable.
d. Remove the shift cable from the floor shift shift lever assembly while holding the lock nut.
e. Repeat the above process for the select cable.
NOTICE: Do not push in the cable locks.
11. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 clips and 2 washers, and disconnect the top ends of the control cable from the transaxle.
b. Remove the 2 clips and disconnect the control cable bracket.
c. Remove the 2 nuts and clamp from the body.
d. Remove the clamp from the control cable.
e. Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
f. Pull out the control cable from the floor.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Install the control cable with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
b. Install the clamp to the control cable.
c. Install the clamp to the body with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
d. Connect the control cable to the control cable bracket, and install 2 new clips.
e. Connect the control cable to the transaxle, and install the 2 washers and 2 clips.
2. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the ends of the control cable and install the 2 clips to the shift lever.
b. Turn the lock nuts of the shift cable 270° counterclockwise, and hold them in that position.
c. Install the shift cable while holding them.
d. Check that the cable are installed securely.
e. Push in the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable.
3. INSTALL FRONT NO. 1 FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.)
4. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL CENTER AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY
7. INSTALL REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
8. INSTALL REAR CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER
9. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL UPPER
10. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
11. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
12. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
a. Perform initialization.
13. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
