Wiring Harness: Service and Repair

TRANSMISSION WIRE

COMPONENTS:





REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
3. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
a. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
b. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)

4. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUBASSEMBLY





a. Remove the 18 bolts, oil pan and gasket.

NOTICE: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan. Remove all of the oil pan bolts, and carefully remove the oil
pan assembly. Discard the gasket.





b. Remove the 2 magnets from the oil pan.





c. Examine the particles in the oil pan.
1. Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets. Look at the chips and particles in the oil pan and on the magnets carefully to determine the type of wear which might be found in the transaxle.
Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and plate wear
Brass (non-magnetic): bearing wear





5. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION WIRE
a. Disconnect the 5 solenoid valve connectors.
b. Remove the bolt and lock plate, and disconnect the ATF temperature sensor.





6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION WIRE
a. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
b. Remove the bolt and transmission wire.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION WIRE





a. Coat a new O-ring and install it to the wire.





b. Install the wire with the bolt.
Torque: 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.)





2. CONNECT TRANSMISSION WIRE
a. Coat a new O-ring with ATF and install it to the ATF temperature sensor.
b. Install the ATF temperature sensor with the lock plate and bolt.
Torque: 6.6 Nm (67 kgf-cm, 58 inch lbs.)
c. Connect the 5 solenoid valve connectors.
3. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUBASSEMBLY





a. Install the 2 magnets in the oil pan.
b. Apply seal packing or equivalent to the 18 bolts.
Seal packing: THREE BOND 1344 or equivalent

NOTICE: Apply seal packing or equivalent to the bolts and tighten them within 10 minutes after application because the bolts should be seal bolts.





c. Install a new gasket and the oil pan to the transaxle case with the 18 bolts.
Torque: 7.8 Nm (80 kgf-cm, 69 inch lbs.)

4. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
5. ADD AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
Fluid type: T-IV
Standard capacity: 3.5 liters (3.7 US qts, 3.1 Imp. qts)
6. INSPECT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID
a. Inspect the fluid.
7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

9. RESET MEMORY
