Shifter A/T: Service and Repair

FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY

COMPONENTS:





REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER FRONT PANEL SUBASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUBASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY





5. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the knob.





6. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the cable from the floor shift.
7. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY





a. Disconnect the shift lock control ECU connector.





b. Remove the 4 bolts and floor shift assembly.

DISASSEMBLY





1. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the cover from the position indicator housing.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





2. DISCONNECT INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUBASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the wire connector from the floor shift.





3. REMOVE FLOOR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the housing from the shift lock control unit.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.





4. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT GUIDE
a. Using a screwdriver, remove the guide from the floor shift position indicator housing sub-assembly.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

5. REMOVE INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY





a. Remove the wire from the position indicator light guide.





b. Remove the bulb from the wire.
c. Remove the cap from the bulb.





6. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
a. Remove the cover from the shift lock control unit.





7. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
a. Remove the cover from the position indicator slide cover.





8. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
a. Remove the button and spring from the shift lock control unit.





9. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING LOWER
a. Remove the housing from the shift lock control unit.
10. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUBASSEMBLY





a. Remove the shift lever nut and lock pin from the shift lock control unit.
b. Remove the shift lever guide housing from the shift lock control unit.

NOTICE: First remove the shift lever nut and lock pin. Then disengage the 2 claws.





c. Remove the 2 screws and ECU.

ADJUSTMENT
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
a. When the shift lever is moved from the P to R position with the ignition switch ON and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and moves correctly into the position.
b. Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from the N to D position and moves rearward when shifting to the R position.
2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION





a. Remove the nut and disconnect the control cable from the control shaft lever.





b. Turn the control shaft lever counterclockwise until it stops.
c. Turn the control shift lever clockwise 2 notches to set it to the N position.
d. Move the shift lever to the N position and install the control cable to the control shaft lever with the nut while pushing the end of the control cable up.
Torque: 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE:
^ The shift lever cannot be moved if the end of the control cable is pushed up to fan.
^ Tighten the nut while the control cable is properly stretched.

e. After adjustment, check that the shift lever moves smoothly and the shift lever and gear operate correctly.

REASSEMBLY
1. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUBASSEMBLY





a. Apply MP grease to the hatched area of the shift lever guide housing as indicated in the illustration.





b. Install the ECU with the 2 screws.





c. Install the shift lever guide housing with the shift lever lock pin and a new shift lever nut.

NOTICE:
^ Install the shift lever nut and lock pin after first engaging the 2 claws.
^ Securely engage the claws.





2. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING LOWER
a. Install the housing to the shift lock control unit.





3. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON
a. Apply MP grease to the button and spring.
b. Install the button and spring to the shift lock control unit.





4. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
a. Install the cover to the position indicator slide cover.





5. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
a. Install the cover to the shift lock control unit.
6. INSTALL INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY





a. Install the bulb to the indicator light wire.
b. Install the cap to the bulb.





c. Install the wire to the position indicator light guide.

NOTICE: Make sure that the indicator light wire is securely installed to the position indicator light guide.





7. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT GUIDE
a. Install the guide to the floor shift position indicator housing.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.





8. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT POSITION INDICATOR HOUSING SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Install the housing to the shift lock control unit.

HINT: Securely engage the 4 claws.





9. CONNECT INDICATOR LIGHT WIRE SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the wire connector to the floor shift.

NOTICE: Make sure that the indicator light wire is securely installed to the floor shift.





10. INSTALL SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
a. Install the cover to the floor shift position indicator housing.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY





a. Install the lever with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)

HINT: Tighten the bolts in this order: A, B, C and D.

NOTICE: Be careful not to put the wires of the indicator light of the shift lock system between the floor shift assembly and the floor while installing the transmission floor shift lever assembly.





b. Connect the shift lock control ECU connector.





2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Install the cable to the floor shift assembly.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.





3. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUBASSEMBLY
5. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER FRONT PANEL SUBASSEMBLY
6. INSTALL REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
7. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
8. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

9. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
a. Inspect the shift lever position.
10. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
a. Adjustment the shift lever position.
