Shift Cable: Service and Repair

TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

REMOVAL
1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING RADIATOR ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the exhaust pipe.
4. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
5. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY





a. Remove the nut from the control shaft lever.
b. Disconnect the cable from the control shaft lever.





c. Remove the clip and disconnect the cable from the control cable bracket.





d. Disconnect the cable from the control cable clamp.
6. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY





a. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the No. 2 shift cable grommet retainer.





b. Disconnect the floor shift cable from the transmission floor shift assembly.
c. Pull out the cable from the body.
d. Remove the No. 2 shift cable grommet retainer.

INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY





a. Put the cable into the body.
b. Install the No. 2 shift cable grommet retainer to the floor shift cable.
c. Install the floor shift cable as shown in the illustration.

HINT: Securely engage the claws.





d. Install the No. 2 shift cable grommet retainer with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (50 kgf-cm, 43 inch lbs.)

2. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY





a. Connect the cable to the control cable clamp.





b. Connect the cable to the bracket with the clip.





c. Temporarily install the cable to the control shaft lever with the nut.
3. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONING RADIATOR ASSEMBLY
4. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Install exhaust pipe.
5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
6. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

7. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
8. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
9. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER LH
