Tire Monitor System - Sensor Transmitter Activation
PRE-DELIVERY SERVICEPD038-06
Title:
TIRE PRESSURE
SENSING TRANSMITTER
ACTIVATION PROCEDURE
Models:
'07 Scion tC
June 1, 2006
Introduction
A tire pressure sensing transmitter is built into each tire valve, and the measured tire pressure data is transmitted through a Tire Pressure Warning System antenna to the Tire Pressure Warning System receiver.
The tire pressure sensing transmitters used for the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) on 2007 model year Scion tC vehicles need to be activated during Pre-Delivery Service (PDS).
Applicable Vehicles
^ 2007 model year Scion tC vehicles.
Reference Information
NOTE:
^ After all the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated, the flashing Low Tire Pressure Warning Light goes OFF.
^ The Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) listed below may be stored in the system until the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated.
^ The codes will automatically clear when the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated.
Warranty Information
Required SSTs Activation Procedure
1. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and check that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks.
2. Press the valve core to reduce the tire inflation pressure rapidly by 6 psi (0.4 kgf/sq.cm, 40 kPa) or more within 30 seconds. If the tire inflation pressure Is NOT reduced by 6 psi (0.4 kgf/sq.cm, 40 kPa) or more within 30 seconds, the tire pressure sensing transmitters will NOT be activated.
This step is required for the system to be activated and MUST be performed for each tire, one at a time.
3. Check that the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light goes OFF after all the tire pressure sensing transmitters are activated.
4. Check that the sleep mode DTCs are NOT stored in the system. If the sleep mode DTCs are stored, increase the tire inflation pressure of all 4 tires to 44 psi (3.0 kgf/sq.cm, 300 kpa) and repeat steps 1 - 3.
5. Adjust all tires to the standard tire inflation pressure as indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label on the vehicle.
6. Turn the ignition switch to the "IG-ON" position, and then push and hold the tire pressure warning "SET" switch until the Low Tire Pressure Warning Light blinks 3 times.
Wait 5 minutes with the ignition ON.
7. Check the tire pressure values of all the wheels using the Diagnostic Tester.
If the tire pressure values cannot be displayed on the Diagnostic Tester screen, the initialization is NOT completed.
NOTE:
^ If the value of tire pressure is NOT properly displayed on the Diagnostic Tester (e.g., shows -14 psi, -103 kPa, etc.), the data from the transmitter has NOT been received.
^ It takes 5 minutes to display the accurate tire pressure data.
