REMOVAL

1. BOLT, SCREW AND NUT TABLE

HINT: All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.






2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

3. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the upper instrument panel.

4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD ASSEMBLY
5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER
7. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY






a. Detach the 7 claws and remove the console upper rear panel.

10. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY






a. Disconnect the connector.
b. Remove the console box carpet.






c. Manual transaxle: Remove the 2 screws.
d. Automatic transaxle: Remove the 4 screws.
e. Remove the 2 bolts.
f. Remove the clamp and console box, and disconnect the connector.

11. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the driver side knee airbag.

12. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY






a. Detach the 2 claws.
b. Remove the instrument panel under cover, as shown in the illustration.

13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH






a. Detach the 12 claws and remove the front door scuff plate.

14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH

HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

15. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH






a. Remove the clip.
b. Remove the 2 clips and cowl side trim.

16. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

17. REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT






a. Remove the 3 clips, and No. 2 heater to register duct.

18. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY
a. Disconnect the hood lock control cable.
b. Remove the 3 screws, 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
c. Remove the 2 clips.
d. Detach the 7 wire harness clamps.
e. Disconnect the 3 connectors.
f. Pull the lower instrument panel toward the rear of the vehicle, and check that the wire harnesses are not caught, and then remove the lower instrument panel.






INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY
a. Install the lower instrument panel, and check that the wire harness are not caught.






b. Connect the 3 connectors.
c. Attach the 7 wire harness clamps.
d. Install the 2 clips.
e. Install the 3 screws, 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
f. Connect the hood lock control cable.

2. INSTALL NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT






a. Install the No. 2 heater to register duct with the 3 clips.

3. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH






a. Attach the 2 clips to install the cowl side trim.
b. Install the clip.

4. INSTALL COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH

HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

5. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
a. Attach the 12 claws to install the front door scuff plate LH.

6. INSTALL FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH

HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

7. INSTALL NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY






a. Install the instrument panel under cover, as shown in the illustration.
b. Attach the 2 claws.

8. INSTALL DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Install the driver side knee airbag.

9. INSTALL REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY






a. Connect the clamp and install the console box.
b. Install the 2 bolts.
c. Manual transaxle: Install the 2 screws.
d. Automatic transaxle: Install the 4 screws.






e. Install the console box carpet.
f. Connect the connector.

10. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY






a. Attach the 7 claws to install the console upper rear panel.

11. INSTALL WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
12. INSTALL HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY
13. INSTALL STEERING COLUMN COVER
14. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
15. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL PAD ASSEMBLY
16. INSTALL UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY
a. Install the upper instrument panel.

17. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
18. PERFORM INITIALIZATION
a. Perform initialization.

NOTICE: Certain systems need to be initialized after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.

19. CHECK SRS WARNING LIGHT
a. Check the SRS warning light.
