Applicability
Introduction
Some customers may experience a crank/no start condition along with a blinking security light when the key is in the ignition. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) B2799 may also be stored. These conditions may be caused by a crack in the immobilizer key housing and chip. Use the following repair procedures along with the new key blank to improve this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY
^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
^ Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
1. Determine if the key is the cause of the concern.
A. Obtain all of the customers keys for the vehicle to evaluate.
B. Insert the key(s) into the ignition and observe the operation of the immobilizer security light.
C. If the immobilizer security light turns OFF when the key is inserted, the vehicle portion of the immobilizer system is operating and the key(s) should be checked.
D. While the key is inserted, squeeze and twist the head of the key near the start of the metal shank. If the light remains OFF, the key is good. Verify that the engine starts and runs.
E. If the immobilizer security light continues to blink after inserting the key in the ignition lock or starts blinking while the key is in the ignition lock, the key should be replaced.
F. Verify if the key requires replacement by attempting to start the engine.
G. After checking all of the customer's keys, if none will turn the immobilizer security light OFF or start the vehicle, then diagnose and repair the immobilizer system.

H. Recheck the keys.
2. Replacing the key(s).
A. Verify the correct key blank, then cut the key to fit the vehicle.
B. Transfer the cover and the wireless door lock transmitter from the original key to the replacement key.
C. Register the replacement key.

3. Verify that all keys operate normally.
A. Verify that all keys start the engine normally and that any wireless door lock transmitters operate the door locks correctly.
