Throttle Body: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY




a. Disconnect the MAF meter connector.
b. Disconnect the purge VSV connector.
c. Detach the wire harness clamp.
d. Disconnect the No. 2 purge line hose.
e. Disconnect the ventilation hose.
f. Disconnect the No. 1 purge line hose.
g. Unlock the 2 clamp hooks.
h. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the air cleaner case.




i. Remove the air cleaner filter element.
j. Remove the 4 bolts and air cleaner case.

4. REMOVE ACCELERATOR CONTROL CABLE




a. Loosen the nut and disconnect the accelerator control cable.

5. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUBASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle)
a. Remove the oil dipstick.




b. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector.
c. Disconnect the hose.
d. Remove the bolt and oil cooler tube clamp.
e. Remove the bolt and transmission oil filler tube.
f. Remove the O-ring from the transmission oil filler tube.

6. REMOVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY




a. Disconnect the IAC valve connector.
b. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector (for manual transaxle).
c. Remove the wire harness clamp.
d. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, then remove the accelerator control cable bracket and throttle body.
e. Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.




f. Disconnect the No. 1 water by-pass hose.
g. Disconnect the No. 2 water by-pass hose.

INSTALLATION

1. INSTALL THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY




a. Connect the No. 1 water by-pass hose.
b. Connect the No. 2 water by-pass hose.
c. Install a new gasket into the intake manifold.




d. Install the throttle body and accelerator control bracket with the bolt and 2 nuts.

Torque: 30 N.m (306 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lbf)

e. Install the wire harness clamp.
f. Connect the throttle position sensor connector (for manual transaxle).
g. Connect the IAC valve connector.

2. INSTALL TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUBASSEMBLY (for Automatic Transaxle)




a. Install a new O-ring onto the transmission oil filler tube.
b. Install the transmission oil filler tube with the bolt.

Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)

c. Install the oil cooler tube clamp with the bolt.

Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf)

d. Connect the hose.
e. Connect the throttle position sensor connector.
f. Install the oil dipstick.

3. INSTALL ACCELERATOR CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY




a. Install the accelerator control cable as shown in the illustration.

Torque: 13 N.m (133 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf)

4. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY




a. Install the air cleaner case to the air cleaner bracket with the 3 bolts.

Torque: 7.8 N.m (80 kgf.cm, 69 in.lbf)

b. Connect the air cleaner inlet to the engine compartment with the bolt.

Torque: 7.5 N.m (76 kgf.cm, 66 in.lbf)




c. Tighten the hose clamp.
d. Connect the MAF meter connector.
e. Connect the purge VSV connector.
f. Attach the wire harness clamp.
g. Connect the No. 2 purge line hose.
h. Connect the ventilation hose.
i. Connect the No. 1 purge line hose.
j. Lock the 2 clamp hooks.

5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
6. ADD ENGINE COOLANT
7. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
a. Check for engine coolant leaks.
