Hydraulic Control Assembly - Antilock Brakes: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID
NOTE: Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.
3. REMOVE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY WITH BRACKET
a. Release the latch of the actuator connector and disconnect the connector.
b. Using SST, disconnect the 6 brake lines from the brake actuator.
SST 09023-00101
c. Place tags or marks to identify the installation locations of each brake line.
d. Remove the 3 bolts and brake actuator with the bracket.
4. REMOVE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 nuts and brake actuator from the bracket.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
a. Install the brake actuator to the bracket with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)
2. INSTALL BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY WITH BRACKET
a. Install the brake actuator with bracket with the 3 bolts.
Torque: 19 N.m (194 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)
b. Using SST, connect the 6 brake lines to the correct positions of the brake actuator, as shown in the illustration.
SST 09023-00101
Torque:
15 N.m (155 kgf.cm, 11 ft.lbf) without SST
14 N.m (143 kgf.cm, 10 ft.lbf) with SST
HINT: Use a torque wrench with a fulcrum length of 30 cm (11.81 in.).
c. Connect the brake actuator connector.
3. FILL RESERVOIR WITH BRAKE FLUID
4. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER
5. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE LINE
6. BLEED AIR FROM BRAKE ACTUATOR (w/VSC)
7. CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IN RESERVOIR
8. CHECK FOR BRAKE FLUID LEAKAGE
9. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
10. CHECK BRAKE ACTUATOR WITH INTELLIGENT TESTER
a. Check the brake actuator with the intelligent tester.
