Shift Cable: Service and Repair

TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY (MTM)
REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
2. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
3. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX SUB-ASSEMBLY REAR





4. SEPARATE FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY
a. Separate the wire harness.





b. Remove the 4 bolts and separate the floor shift shift lever assembly.





5. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the clip, and separate the cable end of the transmission control select cable from the floor shift shift lever assembly.





b. Using a screwdriver, release the claw.
c. Separate the transmission control select cable from the shift lever retainer.





d. Remove the clip, and separate the cable end of the transmission control shift cable from the floor shift shift lever assembly.





e. Using a screwdriver, release the claw.
f. Separate the transmission control shift cable from the floor shift shift lever assembly.





g. Remove the 2 clips and the 2 washers, and separate the 2 cables from the manual transaxle.
h. Remove the 2 clips, and separate the 2 cables from the control cable bracket.





i. Remove the 2 bolts and the retainer from the floor.





j. Remove the retainer from the grommet.
k. Remove the transmission control select cable from the grommet.





l. Remove the bolt and the clamp.
m. Pull out the transmission control select cable and transmission control shift cable through the floor hole.





6. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Install the clamp with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in. lbs.)
b. Push in the transmission control select cable and transmission control shift cable through the floor hole and the retainer.
c. Install the transmission control cable assembly on the grommet.





d. Install the retainer on the grommet.

NOTICE: Fit the protections of the grommet into the hole of the retainer.





e. Install the retainer on the floor with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in. lbs.)
f. Connect the transmission control cable assembly to the floor shift shift lever assembly.





g. Connect the end of the transmission control shift cable to the floor shift shift lever assembly.





h. Connect the end of the transmission control select cable to the floor shift shift lever assembly and install the clip.

NOTICE:
^ The serrate part of the select cable point should face upward when the select cable point is connected.
^ The clip should be inserted in the direction as shown in the illustration.





i. Connect the 2 cable ends, and install the 2 washers and the 2 clips.
j. Install 2 new clips on the control cable bracket.





7. INSTALL FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBLY
a. Install the floor shift shift lever assembly with the 4 bolts.
Torque: 12 Nm (120 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.)





b. Install the wire harness.
8. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX SUB-ASSEMBLY REAR
9. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
10. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 in. lbs.)
