Tightening Sequences

Camshaft Bearing Torque and Sequence








Examine the front marks and numbers and tighten the bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 13 Nm (129 kgf-cm, 9.4 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Tighten each bolt uniformly keeping the camshaft level.

Install the bearing cap No.1.
Torque 23 Nm (235 kgf-cm, 17 ft. lbs.)


Cylinder Head Bolt Torque and Sequence

HINT: The cylinder head bolts are tightened in 2 successive steps.

Apply a light coat of engine oil to the threads of the cylinder head bolts.





Using several steps, install and tighten the 10 cylinder head bolts and plate washers uniformly with an 8 mm bi-hexagon wrench in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)





Mark the front of the cylinder head bolts with paint.
Using the same sequence as step (c), retighten the cylinder head bolts by additional 90° and one more additional 90° as shown in the illustration.
Check that each paint mark is now at 180° opposite to the front.

Main Bearing Cap Torque and Sequence





Using several steps, tighten the bolts with SST in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.)





Mark the front of the bearing cap bolts with paint.
Retighten the bearing cap bolts by 90° in the same sequence as step (g).
Check that each painted mark is now at a 90° angle to the front.

Flywheel/Flex Plate Torque and Sequence





Install the drive plate. (A/T)
Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 6 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 88 Nm (900 kgf-cm, 65 ft. lbs.)





Install the flywheel. (M/T)
Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten 6 new bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)

Crankshaft Pulley Torque
Using SST, install the pulley bolt.
Torque 128 Nm (1,305 kgf-cm, 95 ft. lbs.)





Exhaust Manifold
Using several steps, install a new exhaust manifold gasket and the exhaust manifold with the 3 bolts and 2 nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft. lbs.)
INSTALL EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
Install the exhaust manifold heat insulator No.1 with the 4 bolts.
Torque 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
INSTALL MANIFOLD SUPPORT BRACKET
Install the manifold support bracket with the 3 bolts.
Torque 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.)





Intake Manifold
Install the intake manifold with the 3 bolts and 2 nuts. Using several steps, uniformly tighten the bolts and nuts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque 30 Nm (306 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)

Oil Pump





Install the oil pump assembly with the 15 bolts and nut. Tighten the bolts and nut uniformly in several steps.
Torque:
Bolt A 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)
Bolt B 11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8.1 ft. lbs.)
Bolt C 11 Nm (112 kgf-cm, 8.1 ft. lbs.)
Nut D 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)
Bolt E 24 Nm (245 kgf-cm, 18 ft. lbs.)
