Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL
REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE MANUAL TRANSAXLE ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
2. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE)
3. REMOVE CLUTCH COVER ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
4. REMOVE CLUTCH DISC ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)





5. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR OR FLYWHEEL
a. Hold the crankshaft damper with SST, then remove the flywheel or drive plate.
SST 09213-58012 (91111-50845), 09330-00021





6. REMOVE ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL
a. Using a knife, cut off the oil seal lip.
b. Using a screwdriver with the tip wrapped in tape, pry out the oil seal.

NOTICE: After removal, check if the crankshaft is not damaged. If it is damaged, smooth the surface with 400 grit sandpaper.

7. INSTALL ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL
a. Apply multipurpose grease to a new oil seal lip.

NOTICE: Keep the lip free of foreign materials.





b. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the oil seal until its surface is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.

NOTICE:
^ Be careful not to tap the oil seal at an angle.
^ Wipe any extra grease off the crankshaft.





8. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR OR FLYWHEEL
a. Hold the crankshaft with SST.
SST 09213-58012 (91111-50845), 09330-00021
Adhesive: Part No. 09330-0070, THREE BOND or equivalent





b. Install the drive plate. (A/T)
1. Clean the bolts and bolt holes.
2. Apply adhesive to the bolts.
3. Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 6 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 88 Nm (900 kgf-cm, 65 ft. lbs.)





c. Install the flywheel. (M/T)
1. Clean the bolt holes.
2. Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten 6 new bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 49 Nm (500 kgf-cm, 36 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: Do not reuse the flywheel bolt. It may cause breakage of the flywheel bolt.





3. Put a front mark on each flywheel bolt with paint.
4. Retighten the flywheel bolts by an additional 90° in the same sequence as step (2).
5. Check that each paint mark is at 90° position from the original location.
9. INSTALL CLUTCH DISC ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
10. INSTALL CLUTCH COVER ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
11. INSTALL MANUAL TRANSAXLE ASSY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
12. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE)
13. CHECK FOR ENGINE OIL LEAKS
