Air Bag System

REPAIRS AND INSPECTIONS REQUIRED AFTER A COLLISION

HORN BUTTON




VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.
b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion.




VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the horn button assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface and in the grooved portion
- Cracks or other damage in the connectors
- Deformation of the steering wheel assembly




- Deformation of the horn button contact plate of the horn button assembly

HINT:
- If the horn button contact plate of the horn button assembly is deformed, never repair it. Always replace the horn button assembly with a new one.




- There should be no interference between the horn button assembly and steering wheel assembly, and the clearance should be uniform all the way around when the new horn button assembly is installed on the steering wheel assembly.

CAUTION: For removal and installation procedures of the horn button assembly, see "Replacement" and be sure to follow the correct procedure.




INSTRUMENT PANEL PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY




VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instrument panel around the instrument panel passenger air-bag assembly.




VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly
- Cracks or other damage in the wire harness or connector
- Deformation or cracks on the instrument panel and instrument panel reinforcement.

HINT:




- If the instrument panel or instrument panel reinforcement is deformed or cracked, never repair it. Always replace it with a new one.




- There should be no interference between the instrument panel and the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly.

CAUTION: For removal and installation procedures of the instrument panel passenger airbag assembly, see "Replacement" and be sure to follow the correct procedure.




CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG ASSEMBLY




VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the curtain shield airbag assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front pillar garnish and roof headlining assembly around the curtain shield airbag assembly.




VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the curtain shield airbag assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the curtain shield airbag assembly
- Cracks or other damage in the connector.





FRONT SEAT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY




VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assembly installed in the vehicle: Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat back assembly around the front seat airbag assembly.




VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.

b. Perform a visual check which includes the following items with the front seat airbag assembly removed from the vehicle:
- Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the front seat airbag assembly
- Cracks or other damage in the wire harness or connector




WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR

VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Check for breaks in all wires of the SRS wire harness, and exposed conductors.
c. Check to see if the SRS wire harness connectors are cracked or chipped.

HINT: The SRS wire harness is integrated with the engine room main wire, instrument panel wire and floor wire.




AIR BAG MODULE

VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the airbag sensor assembly center.



AIRBAG FRONT SENSOR

VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. When the front fender of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the airbag front sensor. If there are any defects mentioned below, replace the airbag front sensor with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case or damage to the case plate
- Cracks or other damage in the connector
- Peeling of the label or damage to the serial number

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the airbag front sensor assembly.




AIRBAG REAR SENSOR

VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. When the quarter panel of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the airbag sensor rear. If there are any defects mentioned below, replace the airbag sensor rear with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case or damage to the case plate
- Cracks or other damage in the connector
- Peeling of the label or damage to the serial number

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED)
a. Replace the airbag sensor rear.




SEAT POSITION AIRBAG SENSOR

VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. Perform a visual check for damage to the seat position airbag sensor, which includes the following items even if the airbag was not deployed:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case
- Cracks or other damage in the connector.





SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY

VEHICLES NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
b. When the center pillar of the vehicle or its periphery is damaged, check if there is any damage to the side airbag sensor assembly. If there are any defects mentioned below, replace the side airbag sensor with a new one:
- Cracks, dents or chips in the case or damage to the case plate
- Cracks or other damage in the connector
- Peeling of the label or damage to the serial number

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the side airbag sensor assembly.




AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER

VEHICLE NOT INVOLVED IN COLLISION
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Testing and Inspection.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS NOT DEPLOYED
a. Perform a diagnostic system check.

VEHICLE INVOLVED IN COLLISION AND AIRBAG IS DEPLOYED
a. Replace the airbag sensor assembly center.




SEAT BELT

INSPECT FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY LH
a. Check the buckle switch.
1. Fasten the seat belt (Buckle switch is ON).







2. Check the resistance between the terminals.
3. Release the seat belt (Buckle switch is OFF).




4. Check the resistance between the terminals.
If the result is not as specified, replace the inner belt assembly.

INSPECT FRONT SEAT INNER BELT ASSEMBLY RH
a. Check the buckle switch.
1. Fasten the seat belt (Buckle switch is ON).







2. Check the resistance between the terminals.
3. Release the seat belt (Buckle switch is OFF).




4. Check the resistance between the terminals.
If the result is not as specified, replace the inner belt assembly.







b. Check the circuit for the airbag seat position sensor.
1. Check the resistance between the terminals.
If the result is not as specified, replace the inner belt assembly.
