Shift Cable: Service and Repair

TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY (MTM)
REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
2. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER
3. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
4. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY REAR
5. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT ASSEMBLY
6. REMOVE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
7. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1





9. SEPARATE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 clips and separate the cable ends of the control cable assembly.





b. Release the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable using a screwdriver.





c. Turn the lock nuts 180 degrees counterclockwise, and hold them to remove the shift cable and select cable.
d. Remove the shift cable from the floor shift lever assembly while holding the lock nut.
e. Repeat the above process for the select cable.

NOTICE: Do not push in the cable locks.





10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 2 clips and 2 washers, and separate the top ends of the control cable assembly from the transaxle.
b. Remove the 2 clips, and separate the control cable assembly from the control cable bracket.





c. Remove the 2 nuts and clamp from the body.
d. Remove the clamp from the control cable assembly.





e. Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
f. Pull out the control cable assembly from the floor.





11. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Install the control cable assembly with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)





b. Install the clamp to the control cable assembly.
c. Install the clamp to the body with the 2 nuts.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)





d. Connect the control cable assembly to the control cable bracket, and install 2 new clips.
e. Connect the control cable assembly to the transaxle, and install the 2 washers and 2 clips.





12. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY
a. Connect the ends of the control cable assembly and install the 2 clips to the shift lever assembly.





b. Turn the lock nuts of the shift cable 270 degrees counterclockwise, and hold them.
c. Install the shift cable while holding the lock nuts.
d. Check that the cables are installed securely.





e. Push in the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable.
13. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1
Torque: 5.5 Nm (56 kgf-cm, 49 inch lbs.)
14. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
15. INSTALL AIR BAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY CENTER
16. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONER UNIT ASSEMBLY
17. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY REAR
18. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
19. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL UPPER
20. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY
