AUDIO UNIT COVER IMPROVEMENT

Introduction
Some 2005 model year Scion tC vehicles may have audio unit covers that do not open and close properly. In order to address this concern, a new design cover has been made available.
Applicable vehicles
^ 2005 model year Scion tC vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

Warranty Information
Applicable Warranty:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.
Repair Procedure
NOTE:
^ Place all removed interior parts on a protected surface to prevent damage.
^ When disconnecting wiring connectors, do NOT pull on wires. Pull on the connector only.
1. Set parking brake.
2. For Automatic Transmission:
A. Remove the cap on the shift lock release button.
B. Press the shift lock release button and move the gear shift to the "N" position.
C. Pull the console cluster in the direction of the arrow and remove the clips in order: (A) to (B) to (C) (refer to Figure 2).
For Manual Transmission:
A. Pull the console cluster in the direction of the arrow and remove the clips in order: (A) to (B) to (C) (refer to Figure 2).
B. Pull the leather shift cover through the console cluster.
3. Remove the cigarette lighter harness connector.
A. Remove the cigarette lighter harness clamp from the console cluster (refer to Figure 3).
B. Remove the console cluster.
4. Remove the audio unit cover panel cluster.
A. Ensure the audio unit cover is closed.
B. Pull the audio unit cover panel cluster in the direction of the arrow and remove the clips in order: (A) then (B) then (C) then (D) (refer to Figure 4).
5. Remove audio unit cover.
A. Place audio unit cover panel cluster on protective blanket face down.
B. Remove the 4 Phillips head screws attaching the cover to the audio unit cover panel cluster (refer to Figure 5).
C. Remove the cover by pulling away from the audio cover panel assembly.
D. Replace with new part.
6. Reinstall the audio unit cover panel cluster and the console cluster in reverse order.
A. When reinstalling the audio unit cover panel cluster, ensure that the audio cover is closed and that all clips are properly inserted into the holes.
B. Reconnect any disconnected connectors.
C. Verify that all panels fit together properly with no uneven gaps between them.
