Fuel System

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE
a. Prepare for the inspection.
1. Prepare a new fuel tube.

HINT: Part No. 23901-28290

2. Using a cutter knife, cut the fuel tube protector as illustrated. Tear the protector by hand, then remove the fuel tube connector.

NOTE: If the protector is cut too deeply with the cutter, the O-ring of the fuel tube connector will be damaged.

b. Discharge the fuel pressure system
c. Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage.

Standard: 9.0 to 14 V

d. Disconnect the battery negative terminal.
e. Disconnect the fuel tube

f. Install SST and the fuel tube connector into the vehicle.

SST 09268-41047 (95336-08070), 09268-45014 (09268-41200, 09268-41220, 09268-41250)

g. Wipe off any spilt gasoline.
h. Connect the battery negative terminal.

Torque: 5.4 N.m (55 kgf.cm, 48 in.lbf)

i. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
j. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
k. Turn the hand-held tester ON.
l. Select the menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II /ACTIVE TEST / FUEL PUMP / SPD.
m. Measure the fuel pressure.

Standard: 304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/sq.cm, 44 to 50 psi)

If the fuel pressure is greater than the standard value, replace the fuel pump. If the fuel pressure is less than the standard value, check the connection between the fuel hose and fuel pump.

n. Disconnect the hand-held tester from the DLC3.
o. Start the engine.
p. Measure the fuel pressure while the engine idles.

Standard: 304 to 343 kPa (3.1 to 3.5 kgf/sq.cm, 44 to 50 psi)

q. Stop the engine.
r. After stopping the engine, check that the fuel pressure does not change for 5 minutes.

Standard: 147 kPa (1.5 kgf/sq.cm, 21 psi) or more

If the fuel pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump and fuel injector

s. After measuring the fuel pressure, disconnect the battery negative terminal. Remove SST and the fuel tube connector while being careful to prevent gasoline splashes.
t. Connect the fuel tube

2. CHECK FUEL PUMP
a. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
b. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
c. Turn the hand-held tester ON.

NOTE: Do not start the engine.

d. Select the menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II /ACTIVE TEST / FUEL PUMP / SPD.
e. Check the fuel operation by operating it with the hand-held tester. If the fuel pump does not operate, replace the fuel pump.

3. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS
a. Check that there are no leaks in the fuel system while fuel pressure is applied.
