REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
REPLACEMENT

HINT:
- Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- The procedures listed are for the LH side.

1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL





2. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the 2 bolts and rear disc brake caliper assembly.

NOTICE: Use a string or similar device to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.





3. DISCONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
a. Remove the bolt and disconnect the skid control sensor wire.
b. Disconnect the connector.
4. REMOVE REAR DISC
5. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
6. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.1

7. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.2
SST 09718-00010





8. DISCONNECT PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3
a. Using needle-nose pliers, separate the parking brake cable assembly No.3 from the backing plate.





9. SEPARATE LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH
a. Loosen the lower control arm assembly bolt (member side).
b. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
c. Using SST, separate the lower control arm assembly from the axle carrier.

10. SEPARATE REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 LH
a. Remove the clip and nut.
b. Using SST, separate the rear suspension arm assembly No. 1 (ball joint side).

c. Remove the bolt and nut, and then separate the rear suspension arm assembly No.1.

NOTICE: When removing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate.





11. SEPARATE UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR LH
a. Remove the bolt and nut, and then separate the upper control arm assembly from the axle carrier.

NOTICE: When removing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate.





12. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Remove the 4 bolts, nut, hub & bearing assembly and back plate assembly from the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.





13. INSPECT REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. As shown in the illustration, flip the ball joint stud back and forth 5 times before installing the nut.
b. Using a torque wrench, turn the nut continuously at a rate of 3 to 5 seconds per turn and take the torque reading on the 5th turn.
Turning torque (Maximum): 3.0 Nm (30 kgf-cm, 27 inch lbs.)

NOTICE:
- Neither abnormal drag nor rattle exists during the rotation.
- There should be no crack, grease leakage or deformation on the dust cover.





14. INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
a. Install the hub & bearing assembly and back plate assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts and nut.
Torque:
Bolt: 56 Nm (571 kgf-cm, 41 ft. lbs.)
Nut: 140 Nm (1,428 kgf-cm, 103 ft. lbs.)





15. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR LH
a. Temporarily tighten the upper control arm assembly with the bolt and nut.

HINT: Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and temporarily install the bolt.





16. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 LH
a. Temporarily tighten the rear suspension arm assembly (ball joint side) with the nut.
b. Temporarily tighten the bolt and nut.

HINT: Insert the bolt from the rear side of the vehicle and temporarily install the bolt.





17. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH
a. Temporarily tighten the lower control arm assembly with the nut.





18. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY NO.3
a. Install the parking brake cable assembly No.3 to the backing plate with the bolt.
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
19. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE
20. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER LH
21. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY LH NO.1

22. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET
23. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT LH
24. CHECK PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION
25. INSPECT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS
26. INSPECT AXLE HUB BEARING RUNOUT
27. INSTALL REAR DISC
28. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE





29. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY LH
a. Install the rear disc brake caliper with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 47 Nm (475 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.)





30. CONNECT SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE
a. Connect the skid control sensor wire with the bolt.
Torque: 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.)
b. Connect the connector.

HINT: Do not twist the sensor wire when installing the sensor.

31. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
32. STABILIZE SUSPENSION
33. FULLY TIGHTEN UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY REAR LH
a. Fully tighten the bolt.
Torque: 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: When installing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate.

34. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY NO.1 LH
a. Fully tighten the nut (ball joint side).
Torque: 105 Nm (1,071 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.)
b. Install a new clip.

NOTICE: If the holes for the clip are not aligned, tighten the nut up to 60° further.

c. Fully tighten the bolt and nut.
Torque: 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: When installing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate.

35. FULLY TIGHTEN LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY LH
a. Fully tighten the nut.
Torque: 105 Nm (1,071 kgf-cm, 77 ft. lbs.)
b. Install a new cotter pin.

NOTICE: If the holes for the clip are not aligned, tighten the nut up to 60° further.

c. Fully tighten the bolt (member side).
Torque: 115 Nm (1,173 kgf-cm, 85 ft. lbs.)

NOTICE: When installing the bolt, hold the nut not to rotate.

36. INSPECT AND ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL
37. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
38. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
