Rear Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL (2AZ-FE)
REPLACEMENT
1. REMOVE MANUAL TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
2. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE)
3. REMOVE CLUTCH COVER ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
4. REMOVE CLUTCH DISC ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)





5. REMOVE FLYWHEEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
a. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

b. Remove the 8 bolts and flywheel.





6. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE & RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE)
a. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

b. Remove the 8 bolts, rear spacer, drive plate and front spacer.





7. REMOVE ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL
a. Using a knife, cut off the oil seal lip.





b. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with tape, pry out the oil seal.

NOTICE: After removing, check the crankshaft for damage. If damaged, smooth the surface with 400 grit sandpaper.

8. INSTALL ENGINE REAR OIL SEAL
a. Apply multipurpose grease to a new oil seal lip.

NOTICE: Keep the lip free of foreign objects.

b. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the new oil seal until its surface is flush with the rear oil seal retainer edge.
SST 09223-15030, 09950-70010 (09951-07100)

NOTICE: Wipe any extra grease off the crankshaft.





9. INSTALL DRIVE PLATE & RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE)
a. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.
SST 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021
b. Clean the 8 bolts and 8 bolt holes.
c. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the 8 bolts.
Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND or equivalent
d. Install the front spacer, drive plate and rear spacer onto the crankshaft.





e. Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 98 Nm (1,000 kgf-cm, 72 ft. lbs.)





10. INSTALL FLYWHEEL SUB-ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
a. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.
SST 09213-54015 (91651-60855), 09330-00021
b. Clean the 8 bolts and 8 bolt holes.
c. Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the 8 bolts.
Adhesive: Part No. 08833-00070, THREE BOND or equivalent





d. Using several steps, uniformly install and tighten the 8 bolts in the sequence shown in the illustration.
Torque: 130 Nm (1,326 kgf-cm, 96 ft. lbs.)
11. INSTALL CLUTCH DISC ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)

12. INSTALL CLUTCH COVER ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
13. INSTALL AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE)
14. INSTALL MANUAL TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
