Introduction

Some 2005 - 2006 model year Scion tC vehicles with the Ground Effects kit may experience a condition where the Ground Effects front skirt bows out (warps) at the lower portion of the grille opening during high ambient heat exposure. To correct this condition, order part number PT47A-21053-FK, which contains double-sided tape. The Ground Effects Front Skirt Field-Fix kit will be used to rework the front skirt by removing the three (3) separate foam isolator pads and replacing them with double-sided tape.

Repair Procedure

1. Disassemble the front skirt.

A. The front skirt, repair parts, and work area must be at least 60°F (16°C).

B. Clean the Ground Effects front skirt and surrounding front bumper cover with soap and water solution and wipe dry.

C. Remove all of the fasteners in the inner LH & RH splash shields: seven (7) self-tapping screws, two (2) machine screws, and seven (7) push pins (Figure 1).

D. Remove the two inner splash shields. It is NOT necessary to remove the outer LH & RH splash shields (Figure 2).

E. Apply masking tape or painter's tape to the vehicle front bumper cover to protect the paint when removing and reinstalling the front skirt (Figure 3).

F. Remove the six (6) white plastic T-clips from inside the front bumper cover. Press down on the locking tab to release and remove the T-clip (Figure 4).

G. From inside the front bumper cover, remove the six (6) front skirt aligning tabs from the cut slots by gently pressing outward at each tab location to remove from the tab and pull the front skirt out.

2. Update the front skirt.

A. Tilt the part to gain access to the area where the three (3) foam isolator pads are located in the grille opening. The foam isolator pads are located on the inside of the part (Figure 5).

B. Remove the three (3) foam isolator pads in the front grille opening ONLY (peel off with fingers or carefully scrap with plastic pry tool).

C. Remove any residual tape residue and paint overspray from inside the front skirt.

D. Clean the surface with a soap and water solution and wipe dry with a clean lint-free cloth.

IMPORTANT:
The double-sided tape replacing the foam isolator pads has two different adhesives:

^ The white liner side MUST go on the Ground Effects piece.

^ The white liner with blue stripes side will attach to the car.

E. Starting at the LH side, gently pull the small blue tab on the white liner side of the tape, and apply the tape to the inside edge of the front skirt (offset from the edge 1/8 in. - 1/4 in. [3.18 mm - 6.35 mm]) where the foam isolator pads were previously removed (Figure 6).

F. Run your fingers along the length of the white liner with blue stripes or use a small rubber roller and gently apply pressure to seat the tape on the part.

3. Install the Ground Effects front skirt to the bumper cover.

A. Clean the entire flat surface of the lower grille opening on the bumper cover with soap and water solution and wipe dry.

B. Peel up about one (1) inch of the white liner with blue stripes (Figure 6).

C. Position the front skirt aligning the six tabs with the cut slots and snap it in place making sure the pull tab sticks out above the skirt in front of the lower grille opening (Figure 7).

D. Press the front edge of the Ground Effects front skirt up close to the grille and gently pull the white liner with blue stripes using the long pull tab (Figure 8).

E. Use your hand or a small rubber roller to seat the tape on the bumper cover.

F. From inside the front bumper cover, reinstall the six (6) white plastic T-clips with the spring tabs facing away from the inside of the bumper cover.

G. Remove the masking tape from the bumper cover.

H. Reinstall the front LH and RH inner splash shields and all the original fasteners.
