Introduction

When replacing the sliding roof glass sub-assembly No. 1 (wind deflector) on some 2005 model year Scion tC vehicles, the drive gear assembly must also be replaced. The drive gear assembly is now available as a separate service part to expedite this process and improve overall serviceability.

The following instructions have been developed to assist in this repair. The Repair Manual will also be updated to reflect this new procedure.

Applicable Vehicles:
^ 2005 model year Scion tC vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty:

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure

1. Remove the drive gear.





A. Remove the map lamp from the ceiling.

B. Remove the wire harness clamp.





C. Remove the left side tightening nut for the map lamp bracket.





D. Remove the right side tightening bolt for the drive gear and the map lamp bracket.

E. Remove the wire harness clamp and the map lamp bracket.





F. Remove the tightening bolt for the drive gear. Remove the drive gear assembly.

2. Install the drive gear. Installation is the reverse order of removal.

Bolt Tightening Torque: 5.4 +/- 1.5 Nm (55.06 Kgf.cm, 3.98 ft.lbf)

NOTE:
^ Do NOT attempt to fully tighten the bolts and nut the first time.

^ When tightening the bolts for the drive gear assembly, tighten them alternately and gradually.





3. After replacing the drive gear, initialize the sliding roof system and check that the system functions properly.

To initialize the sliding roof system, refer to TSB No. PD008-05, "Power System Initialization During PDS."
