Instrument Panel Sub Assembly Upper

INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER















REPLACEMENT

HINT: Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

1. PRECAUTION
Refer to Air Bag Systems; Service Precautions.

NOTE: When disconnecting the battery terminal, initialize the following systems after the terminal is reconnected.
- Power window control system
- Sliding roof system




2. TABLE OF BOLT, SCREW AND NUT

HINT: All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table.

3. DISCONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
4. REMOVE METER HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY




a. Tilt the steering column assembly down as far as possible.
b. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 9 claws.

HINT: Tape the moulding remover tip before use to avoid damage.




c. While holding the instrument panel sub-assembly upper as shown in the illustration, remove the meter hood sub-assembly.

HINT: Attach protective tape to the column cover upper to prevent it from being damaged during removal.




5. REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the screw , and disengage the 2 claws.
b. Pull the combination meter assembly toward the rear of the vehicle, disconnect the connector, and remove the combination meter assembly.




6. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSEMBLY (MANUAL TRANSAXLE)
a. Turn the shift lever knob sub-assembly counterclockwise and remove the shift lever knob sub-assembly.

7. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPR FR

HINT: Tape the moulding remover tip before use to avoid damage.




a. Using a moulding remover, disengage the 2 claws .
b. Disengage the 2 claws .
c. Disengage the 2 claws .




d. Disconnect the connector.
e. Remove the clamp, and
console panel sub-assembly UPR FR.

8. REMOVE HEATER CONTROL & ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY
9. REMOVE RADIO BRACKET NO. 1 & NO. 2
a. Remove the 2 nuts and 2 screws, then radio bracket No.1 & No.2.

10. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY




a. Separate the glove compartment door stopper from the glove compartment door assembly.




b. Slightly press in on the upper sides of the glove compartment door assembly to release the 2 stoppers.
c. Disengage the 4 claws and remove the glove compartment door assembly.




11. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR STOPPER SUB-ASSEMBLY
a. Disengage the clip, and remove the glove compartment door stopper sub-assembly.

12. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (W/O CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG)
13. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH (w/ CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG)
14. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (W/O CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG)

HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

15. REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH (w/ CURTAIN SHIELD AIRBAG)

HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

16. DISCONNECT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR




17. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER W/FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 5 screws or , and 2 bolts .
b. Disengage the 13 claws.
c. Pull the instrument panel sub-assembly upper w/ front passenger airbag assembly rearward to remove it.




18. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.1
a. Remove the 2 screws , and heater to register duct No.1.




19. REMOVE HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT NO.4
a. Remove the 2 screws , and heater to register duct No.4.




20. REMOVE DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY
a. Remove the 3 screws , and the defroster nozzle assembly.




21. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY NO.1
a. Disengage the 4 claws, then remove the instrument panel register assembly No.1.

22. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REGISTER ASSEMBLY NO.2

HINT: Use the same procedures for the instrument panel register assembly No.2 and instrument panel register assembly No.1.

23. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL CUSHION NO.2
25. REMOVE FRONT PANEL SIDE SILENCER NO.2
26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER




27. INSTALL INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY UPPER W/FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Disengage the 13 claws.
b. Install the instrument panel sub-assembly upper w/ front passenger airbag assembly with the 5 screws or , and 2 bolts
.

Torque: Bolt: 18 N.m (184 kgf.cm, 13 ft.lbf)

28. CONNECT BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL
29. INSPECT SRS WARNING LIGHT
