Body - Rear Hatch Knocking Noises

Introduction
Some customers may experience a knocking noise from the rear hatch when traveling over rough roads. Follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to correct this condition.

^ 2005 - 2006 model year Scion tC vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VIN shown below.

This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.

Repair Procedure
1. Remove the back door lower stopper cushion on the left and right side by removing the 2 bolts.
2. Install a NEW stopper cushion on the left and right side with 2 bolts.
Torque: 4.0 N.m (41 kgf.cm, 35 in.lbf)
3. Adjust the striker down approximately 2 mm (0.08 in.).
A. Using a taped screwdriver or the plastic trim tool, detach the 4 claws and remove the finish panel.
B. Slightly loosen the striker mounting screws and tap the striker down 2 mm (0.08 in.) with a plastic-faced hammer.
C. Tighten the striker mounting screws after the adjustment.
Torque: 23.0 N.m (234 kgf.cm, 17 ft.lbf)
4. Reinstall the finish panel.
5. Confirm that hatch noise is gone.
