Wheel Drive Shaft Outer Joint and Boot Replacement

Removal Procedure
1. Remove axle shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
2. Detach the boot clamps of the boot at wheel side with side cutters (1). Cut open the boot on shaft and remove.
Note: Replace the retaining ring (1) on shaft after detaching constant velocity joint.
3. Use the rubber hammer to drive the joint from shaft splines on shaft in direction of arrow.
Installation Procedure
1. Wash out cavities in the joint.
2. Prepare the joint for assembly.
Fill cavities in the joint with special grease.
3. Push the boot onto axle shaft.
4. Drive the joint onto axle the shaft with a rubber hammer until the retaining ring engages on the axle shaft.
Note: The boot must sit in the groove in the joint.
5. Slide the boot (1) into the joint.
Note: Use NEW retaining straps.
6. Install the retaining straps on the wheel side and tighten manually with the MKM-804 (I).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
7. Tighten the retaining straps with torque wrench and MKM-804 (II) and (III) to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
8. Install the axle shaft. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
