Wheel Drive Shaft Inner Joint and Boot Replacement (CV)

J 22610 Keystone Clamp Pliers

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the axle shaft.
2. Mark the position of the boot at the axle shaft side.
3. Remove the retaining straps for the boot on the transmission side with side-cutting nippers (1).




4. Cut open the boot on the axle shaft and remove.

Important: So that retaining ring (1) is accessible.


5. Pre-clean the joint.




6. Detach the joint from the axle shaft.

* Spread the retaining ring in the joint with the pliers.
* Use the rubber hammer to drive the joint from shaft splines on shaft in direction of arrow.

Installation Procedure

1. Prepare the joint for fitting to axle shaft.

1. Wash out the cavities in the joint.
2. Insert the new retaining ring.
3. Fill cavities in the joint with special grease.

2. Slide on the new boot up to mark.
3. Carefully drive the joint onto the axle shaft using the rubber hammer until retaining ring engages.
4. Push the boot onto joint up to groove.
5. Attach the new retaining straps with J 22610 (1).




6. Install the axle shaft.
